A Bright and Committed Café at the Heart of the Neighborhood
Located at the corner of Christophe-Colomb and Saint-Zotique, Café des Habitudes is a welcoming space where eco-responsibility guides every aspect of its operations. More than just a café, it encourages sustainable habits in a warm and inspiring setting.
Whether you’re here to work or study during the day, sketch at a table, spend time with your children, or simply soak up the sun on the summer terrace, this place is a true haven of tranquility. Every detail is designed to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while respecting the environment and the café’s values.
A Welcoming Atmosphere Driven by Ethical Commitment
From the moment you step inside, Café des Habitudes envelops visitors in a warm and inviting ambiance. The welcoming spirit is one of its greatest strengths, rooted in a strong eco-conscious and community-driven philosophy.
Environmental responsibility is evident in every detail. There are no disposable cups, the décor consists of 95% second-hand items, and the menu is entirely vegan. Dishes are prepared with organic, locally sourced ingredients, adapting to seasonal harvests. This approach promotes mindful eating, though some may find the selection limited.
A Vegan and Eco-Responsible Menu
During my visit, I tried a matcha and raspberry cookie by Cookine. Its unique texture was surprising at first but quickly revealed delicate and well-balanced flavors. The iced matcha latte that accompanied it was refreshing and light, though it may feel too mild for those who prefer bolder flavors.
The café’s entirely plant-based menu is crafted with creativity by chef Alessandra Pulici, formerly of Moccione and La Marelle. Her expertise shines through in bold, carefully designed dishes that highlight local and organic ingredients. The result is an innovative cuisine that respects the seasons and Quebec’s agricultural offerings, creating a unique dining experience.
Collaborations with committed producers like Ferme Rosace and Ferme aux Trois Petits Pois, both known for organic farming, further reinforce the café’s dedication to quality and sustainability. Every ingredient is selected with care, ensuring a responsible and mindful approach to food.
Locally Sourced Beverages
The drink selection reflects the café’s commitment to local producers. Guests can enjoy cider from Compton, wines from William and Gabrielle vineyards, and pét-nats from Château de Carte. These carefully curated choices celebrate Quebec’s expertise and position the café as a place for exciting taste discoveries.
The coffee is roasted by Pista, ensuring high quality and sustainability in sourcing. Plant-based milks come from Dam Drinks, delivered in reusable 60L containers to significantly reduce plastic waste. This dedication to eco-friendly practices extends to every aspect of the café’s operations.
A Space for Social Impact
Café des Habitudes is more than just a spot for food and drinks. It serves as a hub for cultural events, bicycle repair workshops, and artistic collaborations. Its mission is to inspire change without imposing a moralistic tone, making its approach welcoming and accessible. Greater visibility could help it reach a wider audience and amplify its impact.
The café proudly embraces its vegan and eco-responsible philosophy, appealing to those mindful of sustainability and animal welfare. However, its specific menu may be less suited to guests who prefer traditional cuisine. Clearer communication would help visitors understand the café’s concept before arriving, ensuring a positive experience. Gaining official eco-responsible certifications would further strengthen its credibility and reassure curious newcomers. Joanna, in partnership with the École des Entrepreneurs du Québec, is already working to integrate the café more firmly into the landscape of sustainable initiatives.
The café’s peaceful atmosphere makes it an ideal retreat for neurodivergent individuals. With a space designed to limit excessive stimuli, it provides a soothing and enjoyable environment where guests can fully relax and appreciate their time.
A Must-Visit Spot for Eco-Conscious Consumers
Café des Habitudes offers a unique experience that blends environmental commitment, hospitality, and culinary quality. Its approach is sincere and well thought out, catering primarily to those attuned to ecological transition. For those who share these values, it’s a destination worth discovering.
P.S.: Bring your reusable cup for takeout drinks, or be prepared to pay for a reusable container that must be returned to one of La Vague’s collection points.
